May 26th & 27th 2012
Mawdesley’s major organisations and voluntary groups have come together to organise a week-end of celebrations to mark the occasion of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Jean Povall, Chair of Mawdesley Parish Council said that "she hoped that everyone from the Village would be able to take part in at least one of the week-end’s events and help to make it a most enjoyable occasion." "Mawdesley Celebrates" starts at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday May 26th with a Jubilee Dance in the Village Hall featuring music from the 1950’s to the present day – a rousing programme guaranteed to get everyone up on their feet. On Sunday, Mawdesley’s schools will showcase their pupils’ art and works at St. Peters School and starting at 1.30 p.m., there will be a parade for all-comers from the School down to the Millennium Green. The parade will be lead by the Eccleston Brass Band and it is hoped that as many of Mawdesley’s residents as possible will join in wearing fancy dress and sporting colours of red, white and blue. After a short ecumenical service on the Millennium Green at 2.00 p.m., the rest of the afternoon will be given over to fun and frolics as the Millennium Green Trust host their annual Family Fun Day. Music, bouncy castles, children’s slides, demonstrations and displays will all be there PLUS a talent show “Mawdesley’s Got Talent!” open to everyone from the Village. Planning is well advanced but more help will be needed – particularly on the day. If you would like to help or simply want to know more, please contact any of the following:-
Or keep an eye open here on the Village website where more details will be posted as they become available. Any photos or memorabilia of Mawdesley over the years?
