Welcome to the Mawdesley Village Web Site

Whatever your reason for visiting our website, whether it be something to do with the Parish Council, to check up on your interests or past-times in the Village, to see what's on or just out of general interest, we do make you welcome and hope that you find what you are looking for. If you don't or if you have any questions or suggestions to make, then contact the Parish Council via the menu on the left.

Mawdesley sits on the West Lancashire plain surrounded by green belt and rich agricultural land. The Village name is thought to have originated during the reign of Edward the First (1272-1307 AD). The suffix “ley” signifies a field, meadow or clearing – evidence of our rural origins. Now of course, it is much changed and prides itself on being a vibrant community of approximately 1800 people. From ballet to amateur dramatics, tennis to bowls, cubs to karate; there are more than 20 local organisations and community groups in Mawdesley not to mention all those activities associated with our churches and schools. Want to help save the environment? - then the Green Team is for you! Fancy a pub quiz? - then one of our local pubs is sure to help! All our pubs and clubs extend a warm and hearty welcome to residents and visitors alike.

It's not all about beer and skittles though. There are more than 50 businesses in Mawdesley, mainly grouped into two small business parks whilst the retail concerns include a general store and post office, three public houses, a hairdresser and an arts and craft-based complex.

Finally, if peace and quiet is all that's needed then walk the Jubilee trail and enjoy what nature has to offer. At the end of your walk, sit on the bench in the centre of the Village by the two plaques which record Mawdesley's successes in the annual Best Kept Village competition.

This website is for everyone's use and benefit. Please use it often and if you want to comment or suggest alterations then click the link to the Parish Council.

Enjoy what Mawdesley has to offer.
