Hi, I am looking for information regarding James Halliwell who was born in Mawdesley about 1807. He married Ellen Bibby in1832 at Croston St Michaels. Also Mathew Halliwell born Mawdesley about 1803, who may have been James's brother. He married Sarah Rawcliffe in 1824 at Croston St Michaels. In 1881 James's son Thomas was a shoemaker living in New St. William Halliwell, a pavior was also living in New St at the same time and may have been Mathews son. In 1881 there was also a Sarah Halliwell and Mary Halliwell aged 15 and 13 working as domestic servants at the Rectory in Mawdesley. If anyone has any information about any of them, I would appreciate it if you could E-mail me. Regards, Lillian Richards. Chick the E-mail button

Hi I am trying to find some information on Richard Whittle born abt. 1781. He had a daughter Betty born abt. 1813 and on the 1851 census she states her birthplace as Mawdesley. Betty was by 1851 married to Robert Farrington who I think had been married previously. Betty had a son Andrew (born abt. 1835 Coppull) before she married Robert.
This is the information on the 1841 census when they were living in Coppull.
This is the info from the 1851 census, the words in brackets are my addition. Hope there is someone out there who can help! Margaret Warren email warrenwax@yahoo.com
Hello
I have a request relating to family history,
My ggg/mother was born Elizabeth Cobham 1836 Mawdesley. She
married William Welch Wilson son of John Wilson and Mary Welch of
Wrightington. Her wedding took place at St Mary the Virgin in Eccleston 9th
April 1855 and her father was named as Michael--basket maker. Her name was
written as Cabbin and yet on the Lancashire BMD site it is written as Cubbin.
However when the first of their children were baptised the
event took place at St Peter and Paul and the mother's maiden name was written
as Cobham. Their address at the time was High Moor Wrightington and then
between 1861 and 1871 they lived at Mount Pleasant Drive Wrightington before
moving to Hindley which is where they were in 1881 census.
I have found no trace of Elizabeth or her father before her
marriage. Can anyone help please ?
PS What I find confusing is that her marriage was C of
E and yet some of her children were christened as RC. [Some of whom were
married at Rc and some not
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
