Filming in the Village
As many of you will know there has been a film crew with Loz and I over the last 3 days filming about the RJ conference that was held last September. This short film is not going on the TV but is for future Police training.
Most forces currently use Restorative Justice and ours here in Mawdesley was voted the best out of 42 Forces!
For those who do not know how Restorative Justice works here is a brief recap:
'Restorative practice works by bringing all the parties in a specific incident together to collectively deal with the aftermath of an incident and the implications for the future.
Use of Restorative practice can range from the most minor dispute in a school playground or workplace, neighbour disputes, low level offending to grave and serious crimes.'
May we take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped out with the filming and interviews.

May 2010
'Nursey children meet the Police'
At 10:00 on Thursday the 27th May I will be attending the nursery group in the village hall to meet the children and give them a basic talk on how the Police help people. They will get the chance to look and try on some Police clothing/ hats and have a sit in a Police car!

The children loved trying on hats and jackets and asked me alot of very interesting question! Fun morning which was enjoyed by all!

'Bicycle ID marking session'
At 14:30 on Thursday the 27th May I will be attending St Peter and Pauls Primary school on Hurst Green to mark childrens bicycles who are learning cycling proficiency. Their house number and postcode will be marked on the cycle should it ever get lost or stolen.

This was a great success with over 15 bikes marked!

6th May 2010
'Clean up and Paint'
It was brought to the attention of the Police (by the local children) that there was no hardstanding in the village for the them to play football on, so together and with the help of Rod Collins (chairman for the Millennium Green) we came up with a plan to 'clean up and paint' a small area at the bottom of the green for them to use.
10 children, 12 adults and of course myself and Loz assisted with this project on saturday the 6th of May. The railway sleepers and the bottom shelter were painted blue by the children and a white goal post was erected.
The children really enjoyed this project and now have a safe place to play football!
The children will be receiving certificates of achievement at the next PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting which is next Tuesday the 1st of June at the village hall 6:30pm start. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting so come down and meet us and of course the helpful children!

'Shed Break'

There was a shed broken into on Croston lane in Charnock Richard yesterday (23/03/10) between 9am and 4pm. The offenders entered the field over a metal gate and cut off the padlock with bolt cutters. They could have been disturbed as no property was stolen.
Thieves are targetting small rural lanes with sheds, garages and outhouses looking for tools and scrap metal.
Please be mindful of this and spread the word. It is possible that a green estate type vehicle is involved so sightings and Reg numbers would be useful.

Please let me know if you see any vehicle acting suspicious (as its happening would be better than an email the next day. You can also text me on the mobile number below with any details)

The Role of an Emergency Services Community Support Officer (ECSO)

The basic role of an ECSO is to support and assist all three emergency services during each tour of duty.
ECSO are only assigned to the more rural areas of Lancashire as it is often harder to get Ambulances out to those locations should an emergency arise.

POLICE INVOLVEMENT

Working as a PCSO dealing with anti social behaviour, criminal damage, vehicle crime and juvenile nuisance etc.
Also attending community events within our areas, such as schools, scout and brownie clubs, youth centres, residential homes and sheltered accommodation etc to assist and provide information on various Police matters and to liaise with the community to build a good relationship.

FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE INVOLVEMENT:

Working with the Community Fire team, attending residential homes to provide and fit free smoke alarms and complete a home fire safety check. During the home check, I work out an escape plan for the occupants should a fire occur. We also discuss what to do in an emergency and the basic ‘do’s and don’ts’ to prevent a fire.
Also attending schools and various social groups, to advise members of the public on fire safety issues in the home and whilst out in the community.

AMBULANCE INVOLVEMENT

Attending patients as a first responder to provide basic first aid and reassurance until the Ambulance service arrive.
The ECSO vehicle is equipped with a first responder kit which also includes a defibulizer and oxygen cylinder.
A four day Training course with the Ambulance Service has to be completed.
